Antony Price, Renowned for Designing for David Bowie and Duran Duran, Dies at 80.
Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect behind some of the most iconic looks worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.
His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, such as the soft-colored suits that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance online."
Price's death comes shortly after he presented his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.
A Lasting Legacy
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he began designing men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Partnerships with Stars
A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in shaping sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "true original," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.
In the 1990s, he started creating pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including several ensembles for her American tour after assuming the title.
Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.

The industry says farewell to a authentic original whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
