Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was expected for doubts to be raised about his future following another heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the club's worst run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received significant backing from above,” Slot stated.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “During our regular exchanges I feel the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Issues and Player Reaction
Slot lamented known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell such as this with performances like these.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
