Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the city.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of heroes who will split off from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group features the determined fighter (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look mismatched, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose death started the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his own means, breaking into the secret base, attacking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The traitor then paid off his debts and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, desires revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the team enter areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This means them few options but to head to Timmony in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can anticipate learning which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on next week.
