The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a leading film company and introducing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
