The network's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
Last October, the late-night programming block welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. In an era often characterized by dark humor, this show's sincerity found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Executive Acclaim
Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who found the show and championed its distinctly quirky sensibility.
"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about observing this endearing family go about their daily lives.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing cynical streak. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially catalyze that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to bask in the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
