The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.

While perhaps not at the same level as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The swine, donated by a local firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It captures the spirit of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”

Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
