Toronto Blue Jays Secure World Series Meeting With Los Angeles Dodgers
George Springer was instrumental for the Astros claiming the championship in the 2017 season.
Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their maiden World Series after 1993 by beating the Mariners in the final game seven of the AL Championship Series.
Behind three runs to one, outfielder George Springer hit a three-run home run in the seventh frame, leading the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 series victory in the series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the defending champions, in the upcoming championship.
"I'm just so happy for everyone here, our city, the nation," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "This is such an incredible feeling."
Springer has now hit 23 post-season home runs, ranking him third on the list after Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).
"I can't think of anyone else anywhere that I'd prefer in that spot besides Springer with his post-season brilliance," said manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the one club never to appear in a World Series.
Manager Dan Wilson stated "without a doubt that it's painful" following his team's loss at their home ballpark, but praised their efforts in the campaign.
"It's a special team. It's a shame that we had to come out on the losing end of the series," he added.
Toronto claimed the World Series on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will host the Dodgers in game one on the upcoming Friday.
